It is the biggest French city in North America and it is the center of the culture and business of the province. The old Montreal was declared historic neighbourhood in 1964. In the south-west of the province, it is located the Montreal island in the hochelaga archipel, in the bords of saint laurent river, near Ontario and the USA. It is the biggest city in Québec and the second biggest city in Canada followed by Toronto. Montréal is considered as the second francophone city in the world after Paris, being the only francophone metropolis in North America. Its population is three times bigger than quebec, the capital of the province.

Montréal est considérée comme la deuxième ville francophone dans le monde après Paris (2,1 millions de personnes)[4] étant la seule métropole francophone en Amérique du Nord. Sa population est le triple de celle de Québec, la capitale de la province.
